Nate Wirthlin - American Fork High School

With one week left before our first tournament of the Utah High School Roundnet Season, we highlight another high school roundnet club president (or one of them, there are 3 at AF High School) - Nate Wirthlin. Helping to lead the charge at American Fork High School, which is one of the best attended clubs in the state; and he’s a true leader for the community and says his roundnet goal for 2019 is “getting people to come to and play and realize how awesome Spikeball is” just as he has.

Nate discovered roundnet after winning a Spikeball™ set in a drawing about a year ago. He’s quickly fallen in love and plays as much as he can with the high school club. Along with Spikeball, his other hobbies included typical outdoorsy activities such as hiking and repelling, and especially a lot of mountain biking. He competed in mountain bike races for the past two years and described the experience as the hardest sport he’s ever competed in, but also most rewarding. He’s been in Utah his whole life, first Farmington before moving to American Fork when he was 10, so he’s really taken advantage of the beautiful outdoors we have here in the State. He’s also very interested in cars and wouldn’t mind cruising around some of the scenic views in in a Mercedes AMG GTR or Aston Martin Vulcan.

This year Nate is a Junior so he will be testing out the rest of the Spikeball competition in Utah this year and have one more year to compete in the high school divisions. After that he plans to go on a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints before heading to college and study Engineering and/or Business. Along with Nate, many of the Spikeball club members at AF High School is working with us at the URA to put on the 2nd tournament of the 2019 High School season in American Fork. They are working to make it a full-day event with live music, food trucks and plenty of entertainment outside of the roundnet tournament. It is going to be an event you won’t want to miss!

What are you goals for the 2019 season? What are other hobbies you like? What's your family like? Future goals in life (mission, career, college, etc.) Anything else you can think of please don't hold back!
